Prominance offers the widest range of uPVC Window & Door Options Worldwide.

It’s a no brainer that doors & windows are the soul of a building. Nobody would like to live in a building that has no windows. Even the thought of it is insane & claustrophobic. If knowing that windows are essential for a building then knowing the different kinds of windows & their value is extremely important.

Let’s talk about how uPVC Windows & uPVC Doors are classified & how they’re used in residential & commercial buildings.

Primarily they are classified into 2 major divisions:

  • Casement System
  • Sliding System

Casement System

Casement uPVC windows

Casement uPVC windows are the most popular style of uPVC Windows & Doors. It is an extremely versatile window that will suit most homes, wherever you live. It’s a door or a window that is attached to its frame by one or more hinges at the side. They are used singly or in pairs within a common frame, in which case they are hinged on the outside. They’re further classified as:

Inward & Outward Open uPVC Windows

These are the most common type of casement windows where the sashes open in the respective direction.

Bay uPVC Windows

Bay uPVC windows are regular inward or outward windows that are projected outside the building using bay posts.

French  uPVC Windows

Being similar to the regular inward or outward window it has a fly mullion that moves along with one of the sashes, making it look like it doesn’t have a partition.

Parallel Open uPVC Windows

The parallel opening uPVC windows are a refreshing option for architects and specifiers looking to create an impact and maximize performance. Opening along all four sides, the parallel window offers the best possible ventilation, with increased performance almost double that of a traditional casement window.

Tilt & Turn uPVC Windows

The Tilt Turn window is a European-style window with two distinct functions: swing it in like a door or tilt the top of the sash into your room for ventilation. The tilt & turn is a great window for unique situations where you want additional ventilation or access.

Slide & fold uPVC Doors

This unique system joins multiple door panels with a sliding and folding mechanism  & delivers tremendous flexibility for large scale openings. When closed, Slide & Fold uPVC doors appear to be a wall of beautiful hinged doors. Fold open the doors and the wall virtually disappears leaving an unobstructed opening.

Sliding System

Sliding uPVC Doors

A sliding door is a type of door which opens horizontally by sliding, usually parallel to a wall. Sliding uPVC doors are usually mounted on top of a track below. With frame profiles getting thinner and advanced runners offering a smoother opening, modern sliding doors are fast becoming the top choice to enable a closer connection with your garden or patio. They’re further classified as:

Bug mesh uPVC Doors

Windows are an essential part of any house offering an opening to the outside world but along with nature comes insects and other little buddies of nature and Prominance understands this very well. Prominance also makes sliding windows with bug meshes helping you to enjoy nature as it is from the comfort of your couch without worrying about insects and garbage flying into your house.

Monorail uPVC Doors

It’s a special type of door or windows where you can have a combination of sliding & casement in a single frame making it a very economical option.

Add-on track

The add on track gives you an additional track, as the name suggests. This additional track could accommodate more panels which in-turn gives you a larger spanned window when compared to the 3 track framed window/door. Thus giving you a wider view of your lawn or the nature that outlooks your room.

Now that we know the types of windows & doors, It’s about time that you know where to buy them.

Prominance keeps its promises

We have a wide range of materials in the modern age to make our windows & doors. Materials like wood & aluminum come under it, which have very little UV resistance capacity, making the modern uPVC windows the best choice.

uPVC windows have a component that’ll be added to its original raw material in proportion to it, called titanium dioxide, which provides doors & windows a brilliant white appearance. That’s not its only function, but it also saves us from the harmful UV radiations. Now that we know what type of windows save you from UV radiation, It’s about time that you know where to buy them.

Wind Load for High Rise Buildings & How it affects your uPVC Windows & Doors

Everybody enjoys a breezy day and most of us would like to keep our windows open in such days. when the breeze turns into a storm it’s going to be nothing less of a lock-down & a bad day for us. It won’t be a bad day only for you but will also be your window’s bad day as well!

Your uPVC windows do help you block an enormous load of wind from entering your house during cyclones. But how strong is your window ?

How long can it take this constant battering of the wind? – Well, the answer is not for a long time if you don’t take wind load calculations seriously.

So what is this wind load?

Wind load is the “load” placed by the wind speed and its air density onto structures, uPVC windows and uPVC doors being the structures here. When a high wind load hits the uPVC window or door it forces it to bend causing an elastic action when the wind load exceeds a particular level the window or door deforms permanently or brakes in the extreme case.
A window or door is tested for its sturdiness against the wind load by undergoing a test called the wind load test. A window or door is fixed on a stand and gradually the air is blown on it on both the directions to calculate both the positive & the negative loads the window or door could withstand.

What keeps the uPVC Windows & Doors going?

The wind load handling capacity of a uPVC window or door solely depends on the reinforcement or the hurricane bar, in case of extreme wind load, that’s been assembled along with it.

REINFORCEMENT

uPVC is excellent when it comes to looking pretty & help you keep warm with this great UV value but when it comes to strength it lags a little bit that’s where the G.I. reinforcement lends a helping hand. the cavity inside the profiles is assembled with galvanized iron causing the profile to become stronger.

HURRICANE BAR

when you decide to build a tall high rise building like a skyscraper, the apartments or offices up in the top few floors experience the most wind load, in fact, the wind load & height are directly proportional causing various levels or regions of wind load in the same building. Thus there exists a level or region beyond which no reinforcement of any thickness could withstand the load that’s where the hurricane bar comes into play. It’s a metal block that provides additional wind load resistance to the uPVC Window or door.

DINKY ISSUES

We all get irritated by the rattling sound that the sliders make when its windy outside, well tiny pieces of profiles called the anti-rattler could make a huge difference. As the name suggests it prevents the rattling of the window & also acts as an anti-theft element.

WE KEEP OUR PROMISES

At Prominance we consider these issues to be a big deal & we make sure that from the smallest of beads to the heaviest of the espags are of the best class & are assembled with every little issue in mind. To give you complete assurance Prominance has tested its profiles for 17000 hours @ 34 GJ/m 2 under harsh environmental conditions at the world’s topmost Institutions like BSI – UK & SKG – Germany. This makes us the only manufacturer in the world have that pride. You can trust us with a blindfold on, not just because of the tests we’ve done but also because of the 1000s of happy customers we’ve got today.

Waterproof uPVC Windows by Prominance prevent water breaching in your home even in extreme weather conditions.

We all enjoy a good breeze during the summer & the spring but when it’s monsoon or winter we would barely keep our windows & doors open, that’s because nobody would like a wet & smelly house. But does an everyday ordinary wood or aluminium window keep your house weather sealed?

Unfortunately, the answer is no, but here at Prominance we have designed & developed windows & doors that could take on even the wildest of hurricanes or storms. The primary reason to weather seal or use waterproof uPVC Windows in your home is to prevent water from breaching in.

Well, what is this water tightness test & how Prominance ensure that water does not seep in through the window in case of extreme weather?

Jets of water are sprayed on the outer surface of the uPVC windows by nozzles at high pressure till the water breaches the windows. The test involves subjecting the windows to a hurricane like environment by spraying water jets of volume 450 litres/hour at 160 km/h.

There are two methods of carrying out this process.

The nozzles are set at 24° & 84° for methods A & B respectively.

The sample window is sprayed with water at 50 Pa for the first 15 minutes, later the pressure is incremented by 50 Pa for every 5 minutes till it reaches 300 Pa. After that it is incremented by 150 Pa till 600 Pa. This lasts for an hour.

The result reveals the point of time & load at which the water breaches the respective regions of the uPVC Window or Door.

The following are the products that keep your house dry & fresh:

  • Gaskets

Gaskets are the part of the uPVC windows that holds the glazing in the window & prevents water from seeping in from the outside during rough weathers.

whereas the sliding system has the wool-pile instead of the weather gasket. This is to dodge the friction of the gasket that’ll hinder the smooth sliding of the rollers in the sliders, but it’s got fins that are as effective as the weather gaskets.

From this, it’s obvious that they play an important role in waterproofing your uPVC Windows/Door & when even one of the 2 types fails it’ll lead to a major catastrophe in terms of water tightness, causing water to seep through glazing & from between the sash & the frame

  • Sealant

Silicon-based weather sealants are used to seal the gap between the frame and the wall during the installation of the uPVC Windows to keep it airtight & to prevent water from entering the room.

When the sealant fails it’ll be nothing short of a nightmare. Water from all around the door & window will start seeping in & slowly but surely the uPVC door or window will meet its demise.

  • Reinforcements & hurricane bar

These might not sound like they do much for water tightening but they play a very important role in it.

When a very bad cyclone hits the town, the wind load that tags on along with it plays a major role in helping water breach your windows.

uPVC windows strength is upgraded with the help of reinforcements to prevent the bend when a large wind load acts on the window sash, which Leaves one of the gaskets wide open which in-turn causes water to flow in.

Reinforcements of various thickness are used, but as the height of the building rises, the wind load gets worse, demanding better up-gradations, that’s where the hurricane bar comes into play. The aluminium hurricane bar is a supplement for the doors & windows to help it withstand even the wildest of wind load.

  • HARDWARE

Hardware like the Espagnole, hinges, locks etc., are the elements that hold the sash and frame together so it very important that they perform as good as the profile itself.

They help prevent the uPVC windows from shagging down & prevent weather breaches.

WE KEEP OUR PROMISES

At Prominance we consider these issues to be a big deal & we make sure that from the smallest of beads to the heaviest to espags are of the best class & are assembled with every little issue in mind.

Prominance uPVC Windows – World’s best uPVC Windows & Doors

Windows have been around right from the beginning of the human civilization or most probably even before that. They act like a portal to the outside world from the comfort of your couch. Windows have evolved from being mere holes in the wall to be the power saving, radiation protecting saviours that we see today. Just like the evolution of the human race, windows too took some time to achieve perfection. They didn’t just jump from being holes to being a scientific marvel in just a couple of days. It took decades of improvement based on various needs of the civilizations in various periods of time. For example, the Chinese used paper windows to hide things behind the windows, later on, they were boarded up with wooden planks to help prevent water from entering rooms during heavy rains and this was just a scratch on the surface of window evolution.

The idea of a window is to let fresh air and plenty of sunshine into our home. These were mandatory for a window to get the “good to go” in the past, but just like a pop star whose fame & stardom people eventually stop bothering about, the old features of the window were getting insufficient for everybody. Just like the Chinese who moved from paper to wood, the world wanted to move to something better. Something that could not just be a window but also a multi-tasker. That’s when an array of new materials poured in in the window world.

Future is today

Out of all the materials used, 3 made a mark in the window world.  The old timer, wood, hung in for the ride. Despite it being an all-time favourite, it greatly lagged in many areas that the newcomers shined in. For starters, the simple weather handling capabilities. Wood often bloats when it is constantly exposed to water and causes it to fail in all sorts of ways, right down to the very purpose of it to prevent water from breaching it during the rainy season. The next contender for the world’s best window material is Aluminum. It was a greatly improved material when compared to its predecessor, wood. It had all. The strength, the design, the sturdiness. It was almost the best, almost. Our metal friend was definitely a fighter but it lagged in something that’s considered very important in the modern era, energy saving. Aluminium being the 4th best thermal conductor in the world, it makes your home colder in winters & hotter in summers let alone insulate your home.

uPVC Windows & Doors  – Clear Winner

With all these complications it’s very clear that only material with both the old school properties as well as the modern age properties could stand even the slightest chance of satisfying all the modern man’s requirements. uPVC Windows do just that & probably even more. The following list sheds light on what uPVC is capable of

  1. Zero maintenance – No more painting cost for you since a simple wipe will make your windows look good as new.
  2. No rusting/ rotting – You dont have to worry about corrosion anymore, at least not for another 20 years.
  3. Termite proof – Your windows will no longer be a dinner host for termites.
  4. Sea waterproof – no more salty windows, literally!
  5. High Impact Resistance – uPVC windows can take a punch and are highly impact resistant. This can be further enhanced with double & triple glazed uPVC Windows.
  6. Highly Durable – uPVC Windows are so durable that it would probably outlast the house. At Prominance, we provide a warranty period of 20 years for the colours. Now imagine its durability.
  7. The best thermal solution & UV resistance – Wood & Aluminium windows being very poor in maintaining the room temperature, would highly influence your energy bills whereas uPVC are experts in that matter and can save you upto 30% on your electricity bills.
  8. Zero air leakage/ rattling – our very own anti-rattler & top notch gaskets gives excess air a hard time to bother you.
  9. Weather resistant – Prominance is the only manufacturer in the world to test its windows a whopping 22000 hours at 34 GJ/m2 in extreme weather conditions. Even the world’s leading German manufacturers are shy of 9000 hours.
  10. Resistant to exhaust fumes & building industry chemicals
  11. Excellent Noise Insulation: It offers you great sound insulation so that you can sleep like a baby when there’s a building construction going on just next door.
  12. Aesthetics is a big thing these days. uPVC can look both antique and modern – Since the advent of Aluminium windows people had to compromise the aesthetics to get better quality and strength but uPVC windows can give you both quality and the antique look that people crave with laminated windows.
  13. Smooth finish – Prominance uPVC windows are made with the help of the world’s best machines in a state of the art facility.
  14. uPVC windows & doors are dimensionally stable & they offer the best value your money can get you.

A dream house deserves the best

Having read all that, you probably would have gotten an insight into what or where to put your money, when you are building your dream house. But if you ask me I would suggest nothing except the top drawer material that could give your dream house the dream look that everybody craves for and that would definitely be uPVC without a second thought.

Mother nature’s true friend

The evolution of planet earth has been more of a rough road. Starting from being a molten mass to being the life thriving eco-systems we see today. It took hundreds of thousands of centuries to shape itself.

The clock

Now let’s consider planet Earth’s rocky course as a 24-hour clock. The first signs of life were formed as early as just 15 minutes after zero in the form of single-celled organisms & there was no turning back after that. Earth basked in the beauty of the flora & fauna that it possessed this lasted till the last 51 seconds of the clock i.e., (59:59:9 at the clock). That’s when the first modern men starting walking on the face of the planet. Since then, man has improved at an unimaginable rate but at a very high cost. The inventions that made man improve greatly contributed to the demise of Earth’s eco-system. The man realized this at a very late stage and then on it turned out to be pollution free products everywhere. People made it a trend & for the first time ever it was for a good cause. So If you’re looking to join the party & make a difference yourself. What better place could it be than your actual doorstep.

Pollution crimes

Have you ever imagined the amount of pollution that your windows & doors produce every year?

The numbers are scary & we are being a part of it without even realizing. Windows were traditionally made with wood for a very long time. The timber cut down to make these windows could reduce the rainfall that mother nature scheduled for you today, the cut-down timber count has stopped the landslide that happened at a hill station the other day. These might not sound like they are our fault because we don’t pick up an axe & chop the tree down. But even if we don’t see the trees being sawed or feel the earth shake when the tree falls, we play our role by buying those windows. That’s a crime we’ll never be able to wash off from our hands.

The aluminium windows are not that noble either. The harmful fumes that the smelting process produces increases air pollution substantially and the liquid waste adds to the existing water pollution. So what could be the best material option for a window that’ll help us cut down on all the pollution crimes that we’re committing?

The answer

The answer is uPVC. It stands for Unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It is a polymer that has an array of amazing features that could come in handy in tons of places. Some of them being it’s self-extinguishing property that could stop a raging fire, High thermal resistance that keeps the inside of a place cosy and most importantly it being strong despite its light weight. This marvel of the modern era helps us make uniquely different windows & lets us enjoy all of its physical feathers, but that’s not the best part either. They were actually researched & invented by the Greenpeace, an organization that has set office in over 39 countries with the sole purpose of bringing an environmental issue to public eyes & putting a halt to it.

It invented uPVC to reduce the pollutions caused by PVC, which mainly consists of lead & dioxides. This has greatly contributed to the betterment of the environment in terms of air quality. uPVC is also a type of thermoplastic that could be recycled into another product. This has cut down on the tons of landfill which could have polluted the land & stopped rainwater from entering the underground water table. In spite of all these improvements in the polymer world, there are lots of uPVC manufacturers out there who even sell windows that contain lead but we at Prominance have been very clear from the very beginning that Lead is a big no no & saving the environment is our duty as human beings.

Well, now it’s clear as a crystal that uPVC is truly mother nature’s true friend & it’s our duty as human beings to make the right decisions to help her stay beautiful.

Let’s take a tour around a window factory

The Homo Sapiens have risen above the odds & have outgrown their prehistoric cousins only because of their urge to learn new things & to develop as a group. This has been a default quality for all the people who’ve left their footprints behind in the Earth’s pages of history.

A Wiseman once said that there’s no such thing called an age limit for learning & we’re all students till we take our last breath. To justify the saying & to gain the joy of sharing our knowledge, this newsletter has been made to educate everybody on how a window is being engineered in a window factory.

The window business

A lot of thought & process goes into making uPVC windows, starting from the design to the packaging in which it gets wrapped in once it is ready. A uPVC window is engineered to precision with all the worldly factors around us kept in mind. The important part is the selection of the raw materials & the temperature its being extruded in (That being the process of manufacturing a bar of the window). These factors determine the quality & life of the uPVC window. Then comes the machines that cut & weld your window together. These are man run machines & this requires trusted & trained hands. This being said, the supplements like glass, gaskets hardware, sealant etc., also play a major role in making your window trust worth.

The flow of it all

The raw materials used to make the windows are handpicked with at most care & are brought to the blending section. That’s where they are blended in a specific ratio of chemicals that give all the properties that you enjoy. This ratio is a special number for any window manufacturer. This magical number decides the white index or in simpler terms, the whiteness of window, the UV resistance of the window and many more properties. This blend is heated for through mixing & then cooled to maintain the colour index. This cooled down mixture is weighed & batched for the next process.

These batches are taken to the extrusion process where the powered uPVC windows get a rigid form for the first time. The process involves a machine called the extruder, obviously.  The machine maintains 3 temperatures. This again determines the quality of the window, especially the white index & the stiffness of the window. These temperatures deal with the melting of the blend, making it a regular shape inside the die and finally hardening it inside the condenser. Apart from the temperature factor, the product has to deal with various pressure factors that help it become dimensionally stable. The product also goes through a  process called degassing, which extracts the gas released during extrusion. This prevents rupture, air trapping & improves thermal resistance. This extruded product is then taken to the next stage.

Tailor-made

The packed profiles (extruded product) is then taken to the fabrication shop. This is where all the slicing & dicing happens. The shop consists of an array of machines & they all play a vital role in making your uPVC windows. The profile first meets the double mitre saw which sizes it down to the required size for the window. Then comes the routers, the copy router & drainage router. These make slots for the hardware & water drainage. The profiles also get reinforced with galvanized iron for better strength & are taken to the welder followed by the corner cleaner which is used to weld the profiles together & clean the flash that’s generated during the process. All these machines together create the window that you get at your doorstep.

From the factory with love

Just like a present given with love these windows too get gifted wrapped for every customer & that’s taken care of by the packing department where the windows are cover on all the corners with foam & wrapped with stress film.

Pros at work

That’s how a uPVC window/uPVC door is made in a window factory. These machines can be bought with just plain money but a good window is made by trained & trusted hands and is accredited by renowned organizations. Prominance has it all!

At Prominance, all the processes that you learned today are dealt by trained & trusted hands. We tested our windows according to the EN standards under every criteria & even went the extra mile of testing our profiles for 22,000 hours at 36 GJ/m2  under harsh environmental conditions & got accredited by renowned organizations like SKZ – Germany & BSI – UK, making Prominance the only window manufacturer in the world to accomplish the humongous feat.

Now you know how a window is made & how an excellent uPVC window/door is engineered to perfection.

Monsoon season, It’s the time of the year when the sky is painted grey & the climate is neither hot nor cold but just right. It offers everybody something. Puddles to play on for the fun-loving animated people & cosy long naps for the easy goers. It’s the ultimate lazy season that earth offers us every year. Hurricanes & thunderstorms are forces not to be reckoned with & we know it, so most of us try our best to be inside our homes when monsoon’s friends decide to show up. But are we really safe inside our houses?

The big bad wolf huffed, puffed & blew the house down!

We all must have read the three little pigs, as children & the big bad wolf gave us nightmares every night we went to bed, at least it did for me. Its punchline is “I’ll huff & I’ll puff & I’ll blow your house in” & it blows away the piglet’s house. That was just a childhood story but that could turn into reality with all the tall structures being built. As a building grows in size the wind load factor grows along with it too. Wind Load varies from floor to floor. It acts as a ladder per se, the wind load at the top increases dangerously with every increasing floor.

In the good old times, the buildings barely made it past the 10th-floor mark and the wind load was not even a factor to be considered. As buildings got bigger, the accessories that it bears had to get lighter yet stronger. It should be light to shed some extra weight & be strong to endure the massive wind load on higher floors. The old timer, wooden window, had no prayer on this because of its heavy weight & poor weather handling capabilities. The aluminium windows did put up a fight with its lightweight & reasonable wind load resisting features, but it turned out to be a fight for a lost cause, as it lacked terribly in thermal insulation. After all, Aluminum is the 4th best thermal conductor in the world.

When the world badly needed a hero, it got one.

uPVC to the rescue!

uPVC is a lightweight, high-value material with exceptionally good thermal insulating properties. It is so good at insulating your house that it actually saves you tons of money! If you are wondering how you can take a look here.  Apart from those amazing features, uPVC windows are surprisingly strong with the help of the galvanized iron (G.I.) reinforcements that resides within them. These reinforcements come in many shapes, sizes and thicknesses. These reinforcements help the windows withstand the wind load in the area. As the windows get installed on floors that are over 10th floors the wind load gets nasty and that would call for thicker reinforcements. But as the floor goes higher or if the area is subjected to extreme weather like hurricanes or thunderstorms, the reinforcements may not be enough. This situation would call for something bigger and better!

The hurricane bar

The hurricane bar is a metallic friend of the uPVC window, that helps it to withstand even the worst of wind loads and help you enjoy a dry and safe home. This metallic juggernaut comes in 3 shapes as well, Hurricane 1, 2 & 3.

The hurricane bars 1 & 2 are incorporated to the sliding system and they help it perform better during the battering of the wind, especially during the gusts, The hurricane bar 1 being the best of the lot.

The hurricane bar 2 is an economical and a better-looking version of its predecessor. It handles moderate wind loads where steps for extreme measures is not enquired, causing it to be more economical.

The hurricane bar 3 is truly a jack of all trades. It works for both the casement and sliding system and I personally think It has the best looks in comparison with both of its brothers. So now you know who are the “to go guys” in case you have a hurricane alert.
